Message with the S-AFC, you get a 8X1 (ie. 8 point) fuel tuning map. If you also get the ITC, you get a 4X1 (ie. 4 point) timing map. That's very little resolution.

The next step up is a piggy back ECU, like the Unichip or Greddy e-Manage. Those typically give 16X16 (or 256 points) fuel and timing maps.

The final step up is a custom ECU or standalone EMS. Standalone EMSs differ in resolution, from 200 points for "k-mart" EMSs like Link and the older Haltech system, to 500+ points for high-end EMSs like Autronic and Motec. The Nissan ECU should have about 500 points in its map too.

There are also certain physical interface problems with S-AFC/ITC or piggy-back ECUs, such as trying to run dual intakes or larger injectors... usually they would be a way to deal with the problem if you are using at least piggy-back ECUs, though the solution may be a little clumsy (like to run dual intakes, you can use a S-AFC with 2 MAFs).
